A recent study from the Injuries Board Ireland has shown that County Limerick has the highest number of personal injury claims in Ireland with 50 personal injury claims per 10,000 population.
The survey, which takes into account the number of claims in the past year showed that Dublin was also one of the highest success areas with 26 claims per 100,000. The figures also showed a significant rise in the amount that was awarded in the last year with €281.21 million being granted in personal injury awards last year. In total, this was a 16% rise from the 2013 figures with the average sum awarded exceeding €22,600.
Injuries Board Ireland, the government body that makes personal injury award assessments said that it was difficult to know exactly why some counties had more claims than others. However, they admitted that the number of accidents and the likelihood of these claims being settled without the board’s intervention.
A spokesman said: “As this information is not known it is difficult to draw any conclusions as to why one county has more awards than another relative to population.”
